Description
We all know that dandelions are quite nutritious to eat and the roots make an excellent coffee substitute, but did you know that itβs also one of the most useful plants to support the reduction of joint pain and aching muscles? The anti-inflammatory properties of dandelion flower have been proven to ease the discomfort of arthritis, gout, relieve sore muscles and decrease joint pain. In this case the dandelion flowers are infused into oil that can work effectively when massaged into aching muscles and joints. Dandelion shines as an aid in releasing tension held in the muscles.
This yellow little powerhouse, the dandelion, is an important herbal medicine in three of the world’s largest and oldest systems of herbalism β Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Traditional Western Herbalism. Ayurveda particularly reveres dandelion for its use in treating problems of the breast and mammary glands, according to David Frawley and Vasant Lad in their book The Yoga of Herbs (Lotus, 1986).
While not an exceptional herb in any of these systems, it is a respected member of the materia medica in all three. When herbalists mention dandelion it is often decidedly considered an herb that benefits the liver. Oddly enough though, one of its best applications is largely unknown here in North America. Dandelion is a very good herb aiding your body in prevention and treatment of breast disease of various types.
In TCM, dandelion has been used for at least 1,100 years in treating breast cancer, inflammation, and lack of milk flow. It is also used for reducing abscesses and dissipating nodules (particularly of the breast), especially if they are firm and hard. For these ailments, dandelion is both taken internally and applied as a poultice.
According to herbalist Susun Weed,
Dandelion has a special affinity for breasts. Regular use of dandelion infused oil promotes deep relaxation of the breast tissues, facilitating the release of held emotions. Applied regularly to the entire breast area, glowing golden dandelion flower oil can strengthen your sense of self worth as well as your immune system.
