Calendula Chickweed Ointment

Description

Our calendula and chickweed ointment is made from organically grown calendula and wildcrafted chickweed. When I say wildcrafted, I mean it grows all winter in the greenhouse 🙂 Mixed with organic cold pressed sunflower oil, locally sourced beeswax, and a touch of Vitamin E it makes a wonderful first aid salve that is soothing and healing. It helps sooth the itch and irritation of eczema.

Calendula is related to burdock and chamomile, herbs that are also used for their skin soothing properties. You could say that healing skin is “in the family”. It is also called “pot marigold” although it is no relation to the french marigold seen in so many annual gardens.

During the Civil War, doctors used calendula to treat open wounds on the battlefield. Calendula flower is among the most soothing of herbs for skin salves. One study of calendula showed that it noticeably stimulates physiological regeneration and skin healing.

Chickweed relieves itching and inflammation and is generally soothing and moisturizing. (hence why so many herbalists used it in making salves/ointments) It can be used for any minor skin infection or irritation.

Calendula and Chickweed Ointment contain oils infused with herbs. Unlike creams or lotions, they contain no water; and, as a result, form a separate layer on the surface of the skin. They protect against injury or inflammation of damaged skin and carry active plant constituents to the injured area. Salves are particularly useful for supporting healing in such conditions as boils, acne, rosacea, scars, winkles, psoriasis, eczema, itching, muscle and joint pain, hemorrhoids, chapped lips, and diaper rash or where protection from moisture is needed.
